Qualifications

  • All applicants:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    • Have a high school diploma or GED

    • Valid driver's license for at least two years

    • Have a legal right to work in the US
       

  • Full length recruit school:

    • Candidates should have enthusiasm, a commitment to public service, a positive attitude, and a desire to make the community a better place.

    • No prior fire rescue experience is necessary. Experience in a variety of industries and personal backgrounds have led many individuals to a successful career in the fire rescue service.

    • Application period:  July 16 - August 16, 2024 

    • Written testing will be completed online

    • Physical agility testing will be in person

    • The panel interview will be completed online

    • The executive interview will be in person is being updated.

    • Recruit school begins in January/February 2025.

Firefighter/EMT Pay
Skill-Based Pay and Stipends*

- You can expect to make between $52,000 - $87,018 depending on experience. Please reach out to workforacfr@albemarle.org to discuss your specific experience levels to determine the most accurate pay rate.

- College degree incentives

   - $1,000 for associate's degree

   - $2,000 for bachelor's degree

- Virginia Retirement System

- $10,000 for Paramedic stipend 

- $1,000 for Driver Pump Operator 

- $1,000 for Hazardous Materials Technician

- $1,000 for Technical Rescue Team 

 

* Added to annual base pay after assessment, release, and, if applicable, placement onto specialty team.
